Primitive/Rustic Campsites
Most often available at state park campgrounds and sometimes available at privately owned campgrounds, primitive campsites are generally found in the most scenic sections of the campground. They do not have electricity or water on the campsite itself. Water pumps and outhouses are usually on the campground. Primitive and rustic campsites are most often used by those camping in a tent at state park campgrounds but are sometimes used by RVers passing through for a night.

Semi Modern Campsites
These campsites and campground types usually come with an electric hookup at the campsite itself but have no showers or flushing toilets on the campground. They can also be the opposite, the campground having showers and flushing toilets but with no electricity at the individual campsites.

Modern Campsites
Most commonly used by weekend RVers, modern campsites and campgrounds have electric hookups and water at each individual campsite along with modern restrooms and showers around the campground. Most privately owned campgrounds and rv parks and many modern state campgrounds feature a wide range of activities on the campground including swimming pools, beaches, fishing, and canoe rentals. Dump stations are usually available on the campground.

Full Hook-up Campsites
All the comforts of home for the seasonal camper (an RVer who spends an extended stay, sometimes the full summer, at a campground) including water and electrical hookups, 20/30 or 50 amp service, and direct sewer at the campsite.
Equestrian Campsites
Found at some state park campgrounds, these campsites are similar to the primitive campsites and feature hitching posts for horses.
Cabin or Tepee Campsites
Many privately owned and state park campgrounds offer rentals of cabins, tepees, and even cottages at their campgrounds. Some camprgounds even offer very large cabins for extended families, groups, and organizations to camp together.
